Walking the city, post child-wrangling. Koji appears to be talking to himself to the many people on the streets, though they seem to be plenty busy with whatever it is Autumn City citizens do.
That was disappointing
“Yeah but I found that goblin, didn’t I?”
Stroke of luck. You’d never last in my time. Dead in an afternoon.
“Really? There wasn’t even a threat!”
Don’t make excuses.
“I’m not making excuses”
You still saw fit to flee from that “non-threat”
“Yeah, to get the commander. What should have I had done, shot the kids?”
Your insole-
“My insolence? What about it?”
There is no response.
“Did you forget how to speak?”
More silence.
Koji suddenly takes notice of a young man nearby who seems to be staring right at him, though his eyes are featureless orbs – he’s blind. He wear the simple robes of a monk, though Koji does not recognize any markings that would place the man in any Order he knows of.
“I have temporarily removed distractions so we may speak.”
“What do you mean? What did you do?”
“How long have you had this companion of yours?”
“You didn’t answer my question.” Koji reaches for his bow, the monk seems unfazed.
“It is not important. Please, you do not need your weapon, I only wish to talk about your future. Let’s try again: I am Kamatari, of the Order of Heroes.”
“Never heard of it”
“Our order specializes in identifying those who will shift the winds of destiny and guiding them in the proper direction. We’ve been watching you since you arrived in Autumn Star, including your nighttime excursions.”
“Are you telling me I’m destined to be something great, a hero of legend?”
“No.”
“No?”
“Not as such. My order has determined that your path will ultimately lead to great disaster, and to not offer you anything.”
“That’s not very reassuring. Why are you telling me all of this?”
“Because I do not agree with them. I believe you have potential to do much good.”
“Won’t that cause you trouble if your buddies find out”
“Undoubtedly. But much like you and your ancestral advisor, sometimes one must trust their own instinct.”
“Hey – how do you know about him, anyway”
“My eyes may not work, but that does not mean I cannot see. We will talk again, soon.”
Kamatari disappears into a side street.
-nce would never be tolerated by a real Wasp. Wait, why did all of the people here change positions? Is there dark magic at work?
“No, ancestor. Let’s just go home and prep for the mission.”
Koji and his spectral ally continue their walk to the barracks, arguing about a variety of generational topics.
